In a recent Calgary Herald article, Colin Craig of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation challenges the call by the Alberta Policy Coalition for Chronic Disease Prevention for a tax in Alberta on soft drinks. The CTF argues that taxes have been tried and found wanting. Confidential documents, obtained by the CTF, show that the Manitoba government once looked into a junk food tax option but determined that it would have no real impact other than raising revenue.
