The safety of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners has been rigorously tested by the world’s leading health organizations, including Health Canada, and have been found to be safe for consumption.
Human research shows that consuming sweeteners does not increase the desire to consume more sweet foods. In particular, a 2013 randomized trial in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed the opposite; participants who substituted their regular caloric beverages with diet varieties actually showed a decrease in consumption of desserts.
When combined with a healthy active lifestyle, drinking beverages with low-calorie sweeteners is an effective tool in weight management, and allows people to enjoy sweet-tasting foods without the added sugar, calories or impact on blood sugar.
