“Efforts by public health advocates to demonize individual food items such as sugary drinks, red meat or potatoes are best understood as ideological crusades – generally driven by anti-corporate animus. Whatever evidence purports to indict particular foods is largely irrelevant and often contradictory… Overall diet, not this or that food, explains any growth in obesity; moderation is always the best recipe for good health. And finally it’s a gross abuse of government power to attempt to exert through the tax system control over what Canadians eat.”
