March 16, 2016 (Toronto) – Bottled water is packaged using 100% recyclable Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), one of the most environmentally efficient consumer packaging materials on the market. Throughout Canada, our industry helps to fund and operate recycling programs that ensure as many of our products are recovered for recycling as possible. Nationally we currently recover 70% of our containers, and we make continuous improvements. PET bottles can also be recycled many times to create new ones while saving 50-60% of the energy required to produce a new bottle from virgin material.
Bottled water does not compete with tap water. The majority of Canadians drink tap water at home, and bottled water when on the go.
The CBA and its members are proud to provide Canadians with a wide variety of beverages. We support the consumer’s right to choose the beverage that meets their needs and preferences, whether that be tap or bottled water or a combination of both.
