The Canadian Beverage Association recognizes the Government of Canada’s investment of $3.3 million to support Canadian organizations in developing innovative solutions to address plastic pollution. We support actions that drive the development of new technologies and approaches to improve plastic reuse and end-of-life management.
Canada’s beverage producers have over two decades of experience establishing producer responsibility systems for packaging with some programs recovering up to 80% of plastic beverage containers. If the federal government wants to close the loop on the circular economy, it should support the beverage sector’s progress and implement a national recycling framework. A properly developed framework focused on harmonization and consumer convenience would create a consistent and efficient recycling system across Canada, maximizing plastic recovery and minimizing waste.
The CBA remains committed to working with all stakeholders to promote a truly circular economy and eliminate plastic pollution.
