PROTECTING OUR WATER
Water is required as an ingredient in our beverages and the manufacture of them. CBA members fully support a functional municipal water infrastructure, Strong municipal water systems are as important to the Canadian beverage industry as they are to all citizens.
Bottled water and other beverages only represent a very small portion of water taken from municipal and spring sources. (in 2021 it represented 0.68% of water consumption in the province by industries) Bottled water accounts for less than 0.5% of all waste produced in Canada. Our bottles are made from 100% Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), which is 100% recyclable.
CBA members invest to reduce their freshwater footprint and identify reuse opportunities for treating process water within their own operations.
OUR PROGRESS:
- Ice River Springs estimates that its use of recycled plastic reduces the energy necessary to produce one bottle by 70 per cent and the water consumption by 99 per cent.
- Kurig Dr. Pepper has committed to partnering with the highest water risk operating communities to replenish 100% of water used for their beverages in those communities by 2025.
